'SEASCAPE COLLECTION' AIR PRINT CLUB LONDON 2022

This Must Be the Place — 2023, Screen print, 70 x 100cm, created during AIR at Print Club London. Inspired by the emotional experience of sea swimming.

This Must Be the Place / Seascape Collection / AIR Print Club London (2023)

Developed during an artist residency at Print Club London, this body of work translates underwater photography into layered abstractions. By experimenting with cut-and-paste techniques and shifting halftone textures, Giles captures the immersive experience of sea swimming. The series reflects on water as a metaphor for transition, weightless, disorienting, yet freeing, where identity and emotion are suspended in flux.

'LAYERS' COLLECTION 2022

Shine — 2022, Screen print, 70 x 100cm, created for 'Layers' Collection Inspired by growth, fresh starts and new beginnings.

Shine / Layers  Collection (2021)

Created after the COVID-19 lockdowns, Layers reflects on renewal and the resilience of growth. Inspired by Dublin’s Botanic Gardens, Shine combines layered botanical forms with vibrant gradients and transparent overlays. The compositions merge organic forms with geometric structures, suggesting both fragility and strength. The series celebrates transformation through cycles of growth, light, and regeneration.

Brian Giles is an Irish printmaker and graphic designer whose multidisciplinary practice explores transformation, identity, and the environment. Working primarily with screen printing, risograph, photography, and collage, he embraces abstraction,

layering, and the physicality of printmaking,

welcoming imperfection as a vital expressive tool.

'LETS DANCE COLLECTION'  2020

Synesthesia — Create for the 'Let's Dance' collection, exploring themes of excitement and positivity through the dynamic interplay of colour and movement.

'Supernatural' /  Let’s Dance Collection (2020)

Conceived during a time of personal and collective uncertainty, Let’s Dance uses dance as a metaphor for movement, resilience, and change. Bitmap halftone circles, layered transparencies, and rhythmic repetition form dynamic compositions that echo the energy of music and motion. Each print suggests that transformation requires forward momentum; the act of dancing becomes both an image of joy and a reminder that growth comes through movement.

PRINT WORKSHOPS

Workshops & Teaching

Workshops are central to Giles’s practice, offering ways to share printmaking as a process of discovery and transformation. He has led screen printing sessions for organisations such as Pinterest and is currently piloting open-access workshops at Kypseli Print Studio in Athens. His teaching emphasises accessibility, experimentation, and the value of imperfection, showing participants how layering, texture, and chance can lead to unexpected outcomes

'ECHOES' HANGTOUGH RELEASE 2020

Echoes — 2020, Screen print, 70 x 100cm, created for Hang Tough Gallery

Echoes / Hang Tough Gallery (2020)

Commissioned by Hang Tough Gallery, Echoes draws from patterns of reflection and repetition. Using halftone layering and mirrored compositions, the series explores how memory and experience reverberate across time, leaving both clarity and distortion. The prints embrace imperfection, where ink shifts and paper creases create textures that mirror the unevenness of recollection

FEATURED WORK / ATHENS COLLECTION 2025

Sneak Peak of new work coming, this work was created during my artist-in-residence (AIR) program at KPS Studios in Athens this year

Athens Collection  / KPS AIR Athens (2025)

Produced during the Kypseli Print Studio residency, Athens, this series marked a decisive shift toward abstraction. Using found wrapping paper as both surface and subject, Giles embraced

unpredictability, rips, creases, and chance alignments became central to the compositions. Screen prints combined with risograph overlays created hybrid works that reflect the layered, lived texture of the city itself. The series is about allowing accidents to reshape the work, mirroring how environments reshape identity.

'SUPERPOSED' CRAFT CENTRAL / HOPFULLY BREWING 2025

SUPERPOSED (2025)
This deisgn was created in collaboration with Craft Central and Hopfully Brewing. The design draws on the logic of layering, both in brewing and in printmaking. Abstract shapes, gradients, and overlapping transparencies echo the process of balancing ingredients to create depth and complexity.

The print embraces Giles’s signature play between structure and chance: bitmap halftones and precise geometries collide with the unpredictability of ink and texture. The resulting artwork is both visual and conceptual, a reflection on harmony, balance, and the alchemy of process, whether on paper or in a glass.

MOVE Collection / AGA LAB Amsterdam (2024)

Created during a residency at AGA Lab, Amsterdam, MOVE explores body movement through collage and CMYK halftone experimentation. Cut-and-paste fragments are recomposed into shifting, layered forms, echoing how the body navigates rhythm, space, and momentum. The work balances mechanical precision with spontaneous gesture, suggesting transformation through physical presence and embodied change.
